Francis Chu, MD

Francis was born in San Francisco and grew up in Kansas City, Taipei and San Francisco. His exposure to multiple cultures and environments shaped his openness to new experiences and ideas. After graduating from Cal and UC Davis, he trained in Family Medicine at Kaiser Permanente (KP) Riverside in Southern California and stayed on as faculty. He currently serves as Director of GME and Program Director at KP San Jose Family Medicine Residency, where he co-leads the resident Balint group.
His first Balint Intensive in 2014 was a pivotal moment, introducing him to the use of imagination, creativity, possibility, and empathy to wrestle with the dilemmas in physician patient relationships. He joined the ABS Council in 2019 and serves as the Events Committee chair. He has found a home with Balint and is eager to share his discovery with others.
He enjoys spending time with his wife and two grown daughters, travel, good food, and a variety of musical pursuits.
