John Freedy, MD, PhD

Immediate Past President
2019-2022

John Freedy, MD, PhD was first introduced to Balint work as a Family Medicine resident (2002-2005) in Charleston, South Carolina. He has remained an ABS member continuously since 2005, the same year that he became an ABS-credentialed leader. He has served on the ABS Council for several terms and is currently the ABS Past-President (2019-2021). He is also co-chair of the ABS Scholarly Activity Committee. He continues to lead Balint groups in various formats including as a faculty member for the Medical University of South Carolina Family Medicine Residency.

Outside of Balint work, John cherishes the important relationships in his life---professional and personal.  He is pictured here (left to right) with the most important people in his life:  wife Melba (35 years and counting!!!), daughter Madison, and son Matthew (circa August 2019 in Denver awaiting start of Rolling Stones Concert).  Shadoobie!!!
