We make good care better

"At the center of medicine there is always a human relationship between a patient and a doctor."
Michael Balint

Alyssa Vigliotti
Graduate Education Representative
2021-2022

Alyssa grew up in a small town outside of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.  After graduating with a B.A in Sociology from New York University, she spent a year working in Boston at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute on an end-of-life care study.  She then attended medical school at Penn State College of Medicine and subsequently matched at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, where is currently undergoing her pediatric residency.  After residency, she plans on pursuing primary care pediatrics with a focus in medical education.

Alyssa attended her first Balint group as a first-year resident and was hooked.  She loved the opportunity to reflect on and process the different patient encounters she and her co-residents were experiencing.  She subsequently entered a submission to the Biennial Enid Balint Essay Contest and received an honorable mention for her entry in 2020.

When Alyssa isn’t working in the hospital, she loves spending time with her family, boyfriend, and friends.  She is also actively involved with American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Pediatric Trainees.  She enjoys cooking (especially Italian food!), running and reading.  She also has a love of writing and has a strong interest in narrative medicine.
